Skill of the Month: Safe to Prescribe 💊

I know I say every Skill of the Month is my new favorite, and this one is no exception. This month's Skill comes from John Garvey IV, a medical student. It cross-references a patient's full history, chronic conditions, and current medications against the 10 most common hospital-acquired illnesses, flagging what's safe to prescribe and what isn't.

Running it on Jane Doe, one of our synthetic ICU patients with a very complex medical history shows how critical specific details can be: for a patient on CVVH with recent GI bleeding and ulcerative colitis, John’s Skill flags TMP-SMX for a urinary tract infection not because of the kidneys, but because the patient's on spironolactone, making hyperkalemia the real risk.
