Supercharging Clinicians in IOWA
KLAS Research is an organization on a mission to improve the world’s healthcare through insights, collaboration, and transparency. The team at the University of Iowa Health Care partnered with KLAS research to conduct a study across 2024 and 2025 to diagnose and alleviate pain points clinicians at University of Iowa Health Care had inside the EHR.
They conducted their first Net EHR experience study in late 2024, and then again mid-2025. Shortly following the initial 2024 benchmark study, the team integrated clinical data intelligence from Evidently to help supercharge their inpatient teams.
During the first 30 days, the team at University of Iowa Health Care saw a whopping 0.1 increase in Case Mix Index. Following the eventual second study in mid-2025, KLAS Research revealed that a number of the metrics they track as part of their overall “Net EHR Experience” study had also increased as a result of the integration. Most notably, a 31.7 percentage-point increase to the Net EHR Experience Score.
A HUGE LEAP FOR PROVIDERS
After adopting Evidently, University of Iowa Health Care saw the following improvements among repeat provider respondents:
- 31.7-point increase in Net EHR Experience Score
- 24 percentage-point increase in agreement that the EHR has the needed external integration
- 17 percentage-point increase in agreement that the EHR has the needed functionality
- 15 percentage-point increase in agreement that the EHR enables quality care
- 7 percentage-point increase in agreement that the EHR has the needed internal integration
The University of Iowa is an 862-bed academic medical center and major referral hub —over 85% of patients are referrals from outside the health system. After reviewing the results of their 2023 Arch Collaborative EHRExperience Survey, the organization knew they needed to resolve a major challenge —making sense of a tremendous amount of fragmented external patient data that existed in scanned faxes and in Care Everywhere, which providers complained was onerous to navigate.
The team integrated Evidently with a minimal lift of ~15 analyst hours. In addition to the EHRExperience impact for providers, the UIHCteam has also seen a financial impact in the way of an +0.1 increase in overall Case Mix Index (CMI) that they attribute to the integration with Evidently.
