Everybody Hates It Here… And You Would Too

A screenwriter friend of mine recently started a website in which he shares short screenplays he’s written. He’d gotten sick of structuring and rewriting feature-length scripts, so he started writing whatever came to his head, no matter how long, or how good, or how bad it was. His idea is to write several of these short scripts and then choose the ones he likes to put together a feature, like a musician would put together an album.

As a writer it’s difficult to know when to stop fiddling with a script. You make change after change, and revision after revision, and unless there’s a deadline it’s easy to keep messing with it and go too far. I think it’s really cool that he shares these stories as they come to him, without a filter, without the safety net of feedback. That’s a vulnerable and exciting place for a writer to put himself in. And I love the idea of trying an entirely new approach to writing a feature.

The site is called Everybody Hates It Here, and you guys should check it out: http://www.everybodyhatesithere.com/
