The Yule Log

It’s that time of year again, the holiday season is upon us. It is a festive season when we get together to mingle with our loved friends and family. Social convention requires our presence and participation in all manner of holiday functions. We have informal get togethers, family dinners, workplace parties, holiday pageants for the kids, tree trimmings, and cocktail parties. Some of these events are happy occasions, traditions that we look forward to all year, and some years we find ourselves invited to festivities that would make the Griswold family Christmas seem calm and uneventful. My suggestion to combat awkwardness and creepy drUnkles in reindeer sweaters is to throw another Yule log on the fire. There is nothing like a completely the over the top Holiday gesture to lighten things up and spur conversation. Make every attempt to flummox the other party goers as they try to tell if you are actually that weird.

Like school…but better

I have a confession to make… I like learning. I’d much rather watch a documentary on some ancient society I’ve never heard of than watch any of the useless reality TV drivel that pollutes our screens these days. That isn’t to say that TV is all rubbish. Shows like QI and University Challenge are brilliant ways to learn interesting pieces of trivia but you’re never in control of what you’re learning.
